Craniosacral Fascial Therapy
Infants~ Children ~ Adults
CFT taps into our body’s innate wisdom to heal itself.
The human body, when given the right environment, already knows how to adapt, change, and heal itself. This is called innate intelligence.
CFT listens to the body and allows the body to facilitate healing by driving the movement. This allows the body to unwind itself naturally without forceful adjustment or manipulation.
-
Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) is a very gentle, non-invasive, hands-on modality that focuses on releasing restrictions in the craniosacral system, which includes the bones of the skull, the spine, and the membranes and fluids that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
CFT is based on the Gillespie Approach Theory that the craniosacral and fascial systems are not separate but are an interconnected system or “web”.
CFT blends two therapies, Craniosacral Therapy and Myofascial Release, along with dental techniques developed from Dr. Gillespie’s into a single, effective and integrated therapy. CFT is effective for all ages and benefits a variety of conditions.
-
Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue, that wraps and holds all of our organs, bones, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels, creating an all-encompassing web that protects the entire body as a whole.
-
Fascia becomes tight from when the body experiences a traumatic event - either physical or emotional. Trauma literally means wound, shock, or injury.
Starting from birth, traumas accumulate and can create strain in the craniosacral fascial system, restricting critical brain motion, and affecting the body’s ability to nourish, detoxify, and heal itself.
-
Our brains have an inherent motion of expansion and contraction which optimizes the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. Any restrictions or damage to this motion can greatly affect our health and wellbeing.
CFT techniques are designed to gently unwind and release accumulated fascial strain. This allows for optimal mobility and better brain function.
CFT for every body.
Craniosacral Fascial Therapy is beneficial for all ages and benefits a variety of conditions.
-
CFT for infants is non-invasive and gentle. It removes fascial strain from growth in-utero and delivery.
Signs that your baby may be experiencing cranial restriction include:
• Breastfeeding Challenges
Latch Difficulties, Recessed Jaw, Tongue-Tie & Oral Tension, Torticollis, Sleepiness at the Breast
• After Birth
Vacuum or Forceps Birth, Delivery Complications, Cesarean Births, Prolonged Pushing Phases, Intrauterine Growth Restrictions, Misshapen Head
• Babies in Distress
Colic, Reflux, Digestive Distress, Sleep Challenges, Prolonged Periods of Crying
-
CFT is an ideal for children as a non-invasive, gentle, and effective modality. Removing fascial strain from childbirth and other early traumas has been demonstrated to help with many childhood issues.
CFT offers support for kids of all ages. We are certified in pediatric massage, and we see kids ages 0-18 years old. A parent or guardian must be present during sessions.
• Asthma | Sinus conditions
• Earache
• Concussion
• ADHD | ADD
• Learning disorders
• Anxiety
• Autism
• Mouth breathing
• Bedwetting
• Headache
• Scoliosis
-
As we all experience some kind of trauma throughout our lifetime, adults can benefit from CFT too! Traumas accumulate and create tightness and toxicity in the craniosacral fascial system. When the craniosacral fascial system is compromised, critical brain motion is restricted causing cognitive ailments, physical distress, and mobility issues.
CFT helps by loosening and opening the Craniosacral Fascial System to allow free flow of cerebrospinal fluid and optimal brain mobility, which can improve conditions such as:
• Migraines | Headaches
• Concussion | Whiplash
• Anxiety | Depression
• TMJ
• Pelvic | Hip | Back pain
• Generalized Pain | Range of motion
• Sinus conditions
CFT FOR INFANTS
Birth is a journey for both mama & baby.
Baby’s experience in the womb, their birth stories, and unforeseen issues postpartum may may result in a newborn who has a tight craniosacral fascial system.
Signs that your baby may be experiencing cranial restriction include:
Breastfeeding Difficulty | Clicking
Tongue or Lip Ties
Shallow or Inability to Latch
Colic
Prolonged Periods of Crying
Reflux
Torticollis
Sleep Challenges | Snoring | Mouth Breathing
Aversion to Tummy Time | Car Seats
-
Babies rest fully clothed on a massage table, on parent’s lap, or on provider's lap.
Sometimes babies release emotions or cry during treatments, but the techniques do not hurt babies. This work is not forceful in anyway and is infant-driven.
Some baby’s may sleep, others might be awake the entire time, both are okay. If baby gets fussy we will change positions, stand up, walk around, possibly have you comfort, hold, nurse, feed, and then we can continue the work.
-
Infant-Driven Movement allows the therapist to listen to the infant as they stretch through their fascial strain patterns.
The provider softly feels for connective tissue or fascial restrictions without manipulating the newborn. It is gentle and noninvasive without applying force.
The newborn drives their own movement by stretching, bending, flexing, extending, arching, or twisting while the practitioner gently allows, supports, follows and feels the soft tissues of the body release.
CFT for Lip & Tongue Ties
Bodywork is recommended pre- and post- revision by experienced release providers.
Pre-revision bodywork, releases the tension surrounding the feeding issue allowing the revising professional a more accurate assessment of the anatomical tie, and leads to better surgical outcomes.
Babies are much more willing to receive mouth work prior to oral release & wound care procedures.
After the procedure, our goals are to keep the surrounding tissues soft and in alignment as baby re-learns how to use their tongue.
-
Not every child will be ready for a revision at the same time. The timing of release is dependent on many factors and symptoms. Making sure you and your child are ready for the procedure is key to a successful outcome.
-
It varies from baby to baby depending on their tie(s), but it is recommended to have a minimum of 2-3 sessions both before and after baby's release.
-
It is important to work as a team if your baby has been diagnosed with a tie.
Find professionals who are knowledgeable with this condition & age group.
Receiving CFT alongside care from your Pediatric Dentist, Occupational Therapist, and Lactation Consultant is a comprehensive approach to addressing all of the contributing factors impacting a baby's tongue and feeding function.
The root of many lactation issues are due to soft tissue traumas related to fetal development in-utero, labor, and delivery. When the strained oral tissues are not functioning properly, nursing issues can arise.
