Maya Abdominal Therapy

Abdominal Therapy is a gentle massage technique that focuses on the abdominal muscles, connective tissues, and internal organs.

Abdominal Therapy helps to guide organs back into their proper places. When the body and internal organs are in complete alignment, congestion and blockages are reduced so that energy, communication, and nutrients can flow freely and waste can be properly removed. This therapy is appropriate for ALL ages and genders.

This technique focuses on both sides of the body, targeting the stomach, womb, lower back, hip, and pelvis areas. We use gentle tissue manipulation and joint mobilization to restore balance to your pelvic bowl.

What To Expect

Initial visits are two hours long. They include a comprehensive intake, physical assessment, castor oil pack, treatment, and education for self-care between sessions. Based on your history and need for your visit, we may also do a perineal steam at your first appointment.

Self-massage: I will teach you Y.A.M. (Your Abdominal Massage) the routine developed by Dr. Arvigo and will send you home with written instructions. We recommend that you do this 10-minute massage every day between professional sessions. Daily massage improves and accelerates results.

Follow-up appointments are scheduled once a month. 3-4 sessions are usually recommended at the beginning of treatment. Follow-up sessions include a castor oil pack and have the option to add-on a perineal steam.

Supportive Modalities: I may suggest castor oil packs, perineal steams herbal formulas, or a belly wrap called a faja. I will guide and instruct you on any of the modalities we decide to use.

FAQs

  • The short answer, it depends and varies per person. Complex problems, like endometriosis take longer to shift than constipation or sacral pain. Typically, if you are doing self-massage regularly and following the recommendations for other supportive modalities between appointments, you can expect positive change within 6-8 weeks. Plan on 4 sessions and then we can determine if more are needed.

  • If you are actively inviting a baby into your life, it’s best to come in between the end of menses and ovulation. Please do not schedule for a time when you expect to be menstruating.

  • Yes it can! Our Fertility Enhancement Protocol is helpful for all types of conception. Regular professional treatments and daily home care can improve follicle maturation, cervical fluid, uterine lining and uterine blood supply.

  • • During menstrual bleeding

    • During the first trimester of pregnancy (other forms of massage are still appropriate)

    • Within the first 6 weeks after a vaginal delivery or the first 3 months after a C-section

    • If cancer is present or suspected anywhere in the pelvis, or the client is undergoing chemotherapy for this condition

  • Absolutely! My specialty is Women’s Health, but I treat people of all genders. When working with clients on fertility issues, I prefer to see both partners. Arvigo® Therapy can improve sperm health and transport. It can also enhance erectile function and promote prostate health.

  • Peristeaming also called perineal, vaginal, or yoni steaming is an herbal infused steam bath used to soften the pelvic floor, stimulate circulation, and bring blood flow to the pelvis. This is an ancient healing modality that has been used by many cultures around the world!

  • Castor oil is a viscous, healing oil that has been used across cultures for thousands of years.

Castor oil packs are applied externally to areas of the body whenever there is congestion, decreased blood flow, and need for healing. Packs can be applied to any location that’s inflamed. We typically apply them to the abdomen or low back area.
